julefest, fake fireplace, sunday workday
happy monday of thanksgiving week! we had a pretty uneventful weekend, but i decided to blog about it anyway - i know you aren't surprised ;)
friday night we stayed in and relaxed. saturday morning thatcher and ashford slept in and then we all walked down to the nordic museum for "julefest" the winter/christmas celebration. we went last year in the old space. this was the first year in their new space and we have a membership, so we were excited to check it out. just like last year it was super crowded but it's a much bigger building now, so it wasn't terrible. we looked at the vendors, browsed the exhibits, grabbed some swedish cookies, and listened to the live music in the heated tent. it was really fun!
in the afternoon thatcher needed to get some work done, so i took the kids to a playground in wallingford. it was a beautiful afternoon - almost 60 and sunny! i can't believe how little rain we've had here this fall. it's not the norm. i'll take it! we weren't feeling like cooking, so we ordered thai food for dinner. azalea is obsessed with it, it's really cute :) we hung out at home the rest of the night. funny story: when we moved in, our landlord had left behind this electric insert in the fireplace and we had never tried turning it on. i decided to on a whim and it was so cool! it looks and sounds like a real fire (though it doesn't give off any heat). so fun!
sunday morning thatcher and azalea ran some thanksgiving errands, while ashford and i stayed at home and cleaned/played. after lunch, it was my turn to get some work done (since the kids are off school all this week and it's an added challenge to concentrate). i went to "the dane", which was packed. i ordered a mocha and had to wait for a table to open up. it ended up being right in the sun, which made it hard to see my lap top, but it was okay.
i stopped at the grocery store on the way home and then we took the kids up to the school black top with their bikes. we grilled turkey burgers for dinner and relaxed the rest of the night.
unbeknownst to the kids, my brother is flying in this afternoon for the holiday. i can't wait to surprise them!
