syttende mai, layover visitors, sunday soccer

i know i keep saying this, but may is flying by! we had a lot of fun things going on this week prior to the weekend, so the weekend was really just the icing on the cake.

tuesday we met our friends casey, ella kate, and julie at golden gardens after school. it was a beautiful afternoon! we hung out on the beach, played at the playground, and then got pre-dinner ice cream cones at "little coneys" across the parking lot. :) it felt like summer!

thursday was syttende mai (may 17th - norwegian constitution day). i've written about it on here before because it's a big deal in ballard due to the large number of norwegian/nordic people who lived here historically. there is a huge parade every year just a block from our house and it's so much fun! unfortunately thatcher had a meeting for work that night, so he wasn't able to join, but the kids and i grabbed an early dinner at scooters and then we met up with our neighbors martine, bruce, and beatrice, as well as a bunch of 1st grade families from azalea's school. the kids had such a blast waving their flags and catching candy.

friday morning i got to see my college roomate kaylee for the first time in almost 5 years! she and her husband flew through seattle on their way to oregon for a wedding and they had a 5 hour layover between flights. so they took the light rail to the columbia city neighborhood and i met them at a coffee shop after i dropped off the kids at school. it was soooo good to see kaylee again. i've missed her! within 10 minutes of reuniting, we were both laughing so hard about old stories that we had tears streaming down our faces. is there anything better? :) we got to chat for a little over an hour before i needed to drive them back to the airport again. it was a lot of running around that morning, but well worth it! hopefully it won't be 5 years before i see her again.

saturday morning i took the bus to the u district for some me time. i walked around the street fair that was going on and also got the most amazing biscuit breakfast sandwich ever at a place called morsel. so good!! thatcher took the kids to the library in ballard. in the afternoon i took the kids to a playground so thatcher could get some stuff done (trade-off parenting for the win). azalea and thatcher napped in the late afternoon while ashford and i played. at dinner time, vanessa and matt dropped off ewan so they could have their date night. the kids had fun together. they got a bit wild, so we turned on the tv after dinner and that helped ;) we hung out with vanessa and matt for a little bit when they returned then it was off to bed for the kids!

sunday morning azalea and i went to the grocery store together. it was our turn to provide snacks for soccer and she was very excited about picking them out. haha. we got popcorn, fruit snacks, and juice boxes...in case you were wondering. her game was at 1pm and her team did really well! they actually scored more goals than the other team for the first time ever.

the rest of the afternoon we just hung out at home. we grilled burgers for dinner and then got the kids ready for bed before thatcher went out to meet a friend.

here's to another week. life is good!
