spring break diaries

here we are on the other side of spring break 2018. as i mentioned, we did not go out of town and thatcher worked all week, so it was lots of mom and kid time. i feel so lucky to get to spend so much time with them. time is flying by and they are getting older. i know i will miss some things about having young kids, but certainly not everything ;)

here is a quick rundown of our days last week:

monday

i planned for monday to be "do all the outdoor things" day, because according to the weather forecast, that was the only day that we were going to see the sun all week (yikes). after a relaxing morning at home, we headed to maple leaf park with our neighbors martine, bruce, and beatrice. it's one of our favorite parks because there is so much fun stuff there!

tuesday

thankfully the forecast was wrong and we ended up getting sun tuesday too. we drove to the town of everett (about 20 miles north of seattle) to go to their children's museum. martine, bruce, and beatrice joined us too. it's a great children's museum (it even has a rooftop playground) and the kids had a blast!

we also had a driveway play date with them in the late afternoon. that is martine and my plan for this summer. throw a bunch of toys out on their driveway for the kids and she and i will sit and chat and maybe enjoy a beverage :)

wednesday

wednesday the rain returned. we met vanessa and ewan at mcdonalds for lunch and to play in the playland. we go there every few months because the kids love it! i've eaten more mcdonalds in the last year than i had in probably the last 5 years. ha! after that we went to vanessa's apartment and had a playdate with them as well as her friend liz and her kids who were in town from atlanta. they used to live in seattle and we knew them then, but they moved back to atlanta about a year and a half ago. it was really fun to catch up! both kids fell asleep on the couch in the late afternoon, which didn't make for a fun bedtime, but it was worth it ;)

thursday

thursday was cold and dreary/wet again. we went to the zoo with a big group of friends (including everyone we hung out with on wednesday). we managed to see some animals, but soon it was raining pretty hard so we went to the zoomasium indoor play area to dry off. it was insane in there being as it was spring break. oof.

after the zoo we had a playdate at martine's with bruce and beatrice ;) as you can tell, we were all about filling our time this week. more plans = less time at home with the kids fighting.

friday

friday was another yucky weather day. the kids and i took a day trip to bainbridge island! it was our first time taking the car on that ferry (we have only walked on before). it was also my first time being the driver of said car. and i was the only adult. i'll admit, i was a bit anxious about the logistics. i didn't want to miss the ferry/get in the wrong line, etc. but it ended up going really smoothly! our friends meredith and her kids ronin and imogen live about 15 minutes from the ferry terminal. they moved there from seattle last fall, so it was our first time visiting their new house. the kids had a blast together. i even brought ingredients for a whole30 lunch (meredith just started it).

and a quick weekend recap as well:

friday night we stayed in and relaxed. saturday thatcher stayed home with the kids for most of the day. i was able to escape to northgate mall for a couple hours to do some shopping. going there on a saturday is not the most relaxing, but it was time to myself at least :)

in the evening we met up with some newer friends of ours casey & rob and their daughters ella kate and julie at a brewery near their house. they invited a couple other families they know as well. the brewery was super kid-friendly with a foosball table and lots of board games. the kids had a blast! i drank a beer (which only happens a few times a year - haha) and we ordered in thai food from a place down the street. it was a fun evening.

sunday morning azalea had another soccer game. it was overcast and cool out, but way better than last week's weather. it was thatcher's first time watching since he had his bike ride last sunday. the team they "played" (it's more like a scrimmage) was much more skilled at soccer than hers, but they still had fun. i'm looking forward to some warmer days on the field. also, with all the rain lately our yard looks like it's on steroids:

in the afternoon we went to northgate mall (yes, again) to look for some new tennis shoes for azalea (success), rainboots for ashford (no luck) and hiking boots for me (success!). i don't hike often, but thatcher thought it would be good for me to have a pair for when i do go. finally, we went to the pacific science center for about an hour. it's so nice having our membership there and feeling like we can just go for quick trips.

we mostly left early because i was starting to feel crummy. sore throat and chills :( i spent the rest of the evening on the couch while thatcher entertained the kids, made dinner, and put them to bed. i'm a lucky girl.

the kids are back to school today and it feels good to be back to some structure and routine. but i'm still not feeling great, so i'm mostly relaxing on the couch while i can. hope this passes soon!

What a great yard---tulips and other flowers! All we see is snow but at least we're not stuck with it for the next five months. The kids are growing up so fast!
I highly encourage a driveway beverage! great idea!
