flat stanley, date night, carkeek park

i usually keep my recaps to our weekends, but ashford and i had a really fun morning on thursday that i want to remember. we got a "flat stanley" in the mail from my cousin's son christian in new jersey. he is in second grade. if you don't know what a "flat stanley" is, it's a cut out drawing of a boy that gets sent in the mail to other states/countries to learn more about them. it was our job to take "flat stanley" out for some adventures in seattle and take pictures/fill out a form about where we live and send it all back to christian's school. so ashford and i took "flat stanley" to gasworks park because it has very picturesque backdrop of the seattle skyline. we got some good pictures and also played frisbee at the park. it was a beautiful, sunny morning! then we walked a couple blocks to "essential baking co" cafe for lunch. i had been there once a couple years ago, so it was nice to go back. ashford was a total angel all morning. i love when that happens ;) we had so much fun together.

friday we had another "sidewalk hang" after school. we are averaging a 2-3 of these a week on sunny days with martine and her kids and i love it :) at one point, a motorcycle went by and i caught this picture of the kids. their faces sum up their personalities so well!

friday night we stayed in. made dinner and hung out with the kids.

saturday morning we didn't have any plans. it was gloriously sunny, so the kids and i played outside for a lot of the morning. bubbles, chalk, and tossing a ball have all been on major repeat this month. the simplest outside activities always feels so exciting in the spring, don't they? azalea and i also took a trip to the library to get new books.

in the afternoon, we all took naps (except for ashford!). it felt so good. it had clouded over, so it was perfect rest time. in the evening, thatcher and i got to have a date night (our first time out together without the kids since last december!). we dropped the kids off at vanessa and matt's to play with ewan and then we went to a thai place in our neighborhood that we hadn't tried yet, called pestle rock. it was isan thai, so the menu was slightly different. everything we got was so good! we also went to salt and straw for ice cream after. it's been soooo popular since opening last month. we waited about 15 minutes in line, not terrible.

we headed back to their house a little early because ashford had smacked his face on ewan's bed and gotten a bloody nose. he was okay, but he was asking for me. it was so nice to get a couple hours to ourselves.

sunday was another no-plans day. we decided to go to carkeek park to do a little "urban hike." i love that we don't even have to leave the city to be in the most beautiful nature settings.

it was actually super windy and cold on the beach, so we didn't last long, but it felt much warmer inland. we hung out at home in the afternoon, lots more playing outside in the sunshine. and a trip to the grocery store. we made pork fajitas on the grill for dinner and relaxed the rest of the night.

they are forecasting sunshine all week and even getting into the 70's on wednesday and thursday. amazing!
