pre-halloween fun

i love the weekend before halloween, and this year was no exception! we did lots of fun stuff and made progress on our basement and baby's room! win win! friday night was the annual southwest community ed family halloween party. thatcher and i met while working for community ed, so it's always fun for us to take azalea to the events they put on (and still a little surreal that we even have a kid to take). azalea got to wear her witch costume for the first time. it was a dress that i picked up for $4 at value village, and a witch hat my mom found at the dollar store. my kinda costume! although...it almost didn't get worn by my opinionated little girl. we put the dress on and she immediately freaked out that it was "too tight" (it wasn't....). she tore it off and i thought there was no way i was going to get her to put it back on. suddenly i had the idea to tuck the top part into the waist band and make it a skirt...and she was down with that! whew! i threw her "trick or treat" shirt on top and we were off to the party!

thatcher helped with setup, so he was already there. we got there a little before it started and they let us sneak in early (a perk of knowing many of the volunteers). once the doors opened, it got crowded really fast. azalea was a little intimidated by the whole thing, but i think she had fun. she ate some donut holes, played a coupled games, and got her face painted for the first time. she mostly sat still for it and it was ridiculously cute! we left by 8pm, so she could get to bed. i bet she will enjoy it even more next year!

saturday morning we ran some errands including going to the little "pumpkin patch" at a church near our house. it was chilly, so we didn't stay long, but azalea had fun running around and looking at all the pumpkins.

my dad came over later in the morning to help thatcher with some basement stuff (we are finally making progress!) azalea napped in the afternoon and i started moving stuff out of our bedroom (baby's future nursery) - more progress! i also snuck in a little nap myself. thatcher's parents came over for dinner and then stayed with azalea while we went to our neighbors' annual fall party. it was a fun time as usual. i love our neighbors and wish we spent more time hanging out with them, but life always seems to get in the way.

sunday morning i had a fun date with my friend kris to look at fabric for baby boy's room. she offered to make curtains and cribs sheets for the nursery - so nice, huh?! we picked out 3 really cute fabrics, i can't wait for the finished products! after that we grabbed lunch at panera and caught up. she is the best! thatcher and my dad worked on the basement while i was gone and my mom took azalea to church. i spent the afternoon clearing more stuff out of our room and napping while azalea napped. then we took her to the park to soak up the beautiful warm day. we hung out at home the rest of the night. i'm looking forward to halloween, but it sounds like it might rain on thursday, which is a bummer...
