chicago!

File:20090524 Buildings along Chicago River line the south border of the Near North Side and Streeterville and the north border of Chicago Loop, Lakeshore East and Illinois Center.jpg

this is it...the year that most of my friends start turning 30. and yes, that does include me, but i've still got 11 months to go. whew! ;) my college roomie sarah is turning 30 at the end of august, so the other roomies and i decided that calls for a girls weekend in...chicago! the trip won't be until september, but our flights and hotel are booked and i'm so excited! i've only been to chicago once, in 2004 with thatcher for my birthday/the 4th of july. i loved it and have always wanted to go back. while i love traveling with thatcher, i'm excited to be going with the girls this time because it will be a different kind of trip.

we are staying in the south loop and right now don't have much on our agenda besides eating, shopping, and possibly a show! so, tell me...what are your favorite things to do in chicago? I know a few of you have been there just this summer.

Sounds like a ton of fun! I did a family trip there last December and we had an awesome time at Second City. A lot of SNL folks have come out of there and we laughed harder than we had in a long time

How timely! I still need to write up my recap from being there last weekend. Some of my favorite activities: stand up paddleboarding at North Avenue Beach (you can rent everything for $25/hr), a boat cruise that details the history of Chicago architecture (do the cruise that's run by the Chicago Architecture Foundation as it's the most legit: http://www.architecture.org/tours/boat-tours), and of course, shopping along Michigan Avenue. It's also not a trip Chicago without seeing "The Bean" (more formally known as Cloud Gate) in Millennium Park. Plus there are a lot of fun free activities in the park, so check the event schedule before you go. And if time and your budget allow, definitely go see Book of Mormon! It's HILARIOUS.

There's certainly no shortage of fun things to do, so I know you girls will have a great time!

I've only been through Chicago in passing, never had the chance to explore. A girls trip sounds FUN!

Boystown!!! It's my favorite area. I don't know the exact lines of Chicago lneighborhoods, so it might be considered part of Wrigleyville too. What can I say? I love my gays. And Boystown is chuck full of them. Great places for brunch too. And day drinking. ;)

What weekend are you going? I am going to be there for just one night in Septemeber and we're catching a White Sox game! If the Cubs are in town, Wrigleyville is really fun! Of course the bean is fun to see and so is Navy Pier. The aquarium in Chicago is actually really cool too. I've always liked China Town too, its small but fun!

Fun! We have talked about doing a WOWZA Chicago trip next Spring/Summer, so be sure to take notes of what we should do (tell Sarah to do the same! :)). I've only really been to Chicago once, and I did it wrong...it was only for the day and totally lame.

Chicago does have a very nice public library. It's at the south end of the Loop and should be convenient for you. :-)
