a weekend of birthdays
we celebrated 2 birthdays over the weekend, our friend tom's 30th and azalea's 2nd! friday night we decided to get chipotle for dinner and then grabbed a movie on the way home. there also might have been some ben and jerry's involved. :)
saturday morning we met up with thatcher's college friend alison to take azalea's 2 year pictures at the guthrie. she took her pictures last year too and did an awesome job! turns out the guthrie is the place to take pictures in minneapolis. we came across an engagement session and multiple other families doing the same thing as us. ha! i love that it's open to the public and they allow people to use it in this way because it's such a beautiful space! pictures went pretty well. azalea isn't super into being photographed these days, but it helped that it wasn't thatcher or me taking the pictures. haha. i can't wait to see how they came out. you know i will be posting them here when i get them back (hopefully this week).
after pictures, we stopped by glam doll donuts for a campaign event for lisa peterson bender. she is running for city council in the 10th ward of minneapolis and thatcher is working on her campaign, so we wanted to go support her. the venue was super cute! it's a vintage-themed bakery with lots of fun donut flavors. i snapped this pic when i was waiting in line:
while azalea napped in the afternoon, i ran some errands and did a little crafting for her party. in the evening, we dropped azalea off at thatcher's parents' and then headed to pinstripes for tom's 30th birthday party. i had a work party there last fall and we did bocce ball, so i was excited to check out the bowling this time. we had dinner at the restaurant first, which was really yummy, then headed to the bowling area. we only got one game in because there was a group who reserved the lanes after us. i actually bowled an 83, which is super good for me! haha. here is a sorta blurry pic of the group:
sunday was azalea's party! we decided to just do a family party this year (plus my bff kelli and her boyfriend, jake). we spent the morning and afternoon running errands and getting ready.
just a few decorations...that's as crafty as i get :)
got her balloon and ready to party!
the cake made by thatcher
everyone came over in the evening for tacos, presents, and cake. my parents skyped in, which was really fun. i think azalea was pretty over-stimulated by the whole thing. it took forever to get through her gifts because she didn't really want to open them, just wanted to play with the last one opened. haha.
my favorite part of the night was when we sang happy birthday to her. her face in this picture pretty much sums it up. i don't know if she was excited or embarrassed or what, but it was pretty much the cutest thing ever and i'm so happy kelli captured the moment!
we still have her actual birthday coming up tomorrow. i switched my day off to spend it with her. we've got a couple fun things planned, so i'll recap that as well. can't believe she is (almost) 2!!
