ice castle adventures

last month, we bought a groupon to go to the ice castle at mall of america with our former co-workers from community ed. last night we went and while it was a balmy 36 degrees in the morning, it was much much colder and windier by the evening. i think we all underestimated how cold it would feel out there.

the ice castle was...ok. to be honest, i was expecting it to be cooler. it sort of looked like they just poured a bunch of water over everything and let it freeze. i was envisioning ice "bricks" or sculptures or something. the other weird thing is that it's not even finished yet, but it's open to the public. but we still had a good time. and when we were done, we went into mall of america to warm up. which may or may not have included ice cream consumption for some of us. virtually nothing can come between me and my love of ice cream. ;)

Cool! I wanted to see that this year, but we haven't gotten around to it!

I'm so bummed to hear that the ice castles were just - ok. We really wanted to check it out this year, but not if it isn't finished and doesn't seem worth the money.

That's too bad that it wasn't how you thought it was going to be. Not sure if we'll still go to it or not... I know it's going to be up through February so at least we have time to decide if we are going to go or not.
I too am bummed that this was not as good as the hype. My co-worker also said it wasn't worth the money, it's good to know though. I made tentative plans to go with friends so I may still end up going but if it doesn't work out then I won't be disappointed.

Well, your pictures make it look amazing!

And also? It's nearly 70 degrees in Texas today. So crazy.

What a neat place! I totally would think that they would do cool statues and designs...maybe next year!
