gettin political up in here

happy election day! i know some people couldn't care less, but this is my blog and i want to remember what's on my mind on this sixth day of november, 2012...

i'm just as inspired today by president obama as i was when i saw him speak in person in early 2008. i think he is a compassionate, intelligent, thoughtful leader, husband, and father and the true example of the american dream. maybe he hasn't accomplished everything he said he would four years ago, but i think he's doing a hell of a job and i can't wait to see what he will make possible in the next four years.

here in minnesota, arguably the biggest question on the ballot is the marriage amendment. voting "yes" on this amendment would make it unconstitutional for same sex couples to marry. it makes me sick to think that two adults who wish to make a lifelong commitment to one another could be denied that right. how you can argue that gay marriage will ruin the "sanctity" of marriage is beyond me. love is love! i couldn't be more proud to be a member of a church that feels the same way. this is why i am voting "no!"

i will admit, i'm not as fired up about the voter id amendment. at first glance, you might think "what's the big deal with having to show an id to vote?" but it is a big deal. there are countless eligible voters who would be turned away because they don't have their current address on their id, they are away at college, etc. i see it as nothing more than ridiculous hoops to jump through. in addition, there is no evidence that voter fraud is a legitimate problem, so i am confidently voting "no".

on a lighter note, i'll be so happy to say goodbye to the constant political commercials. that's something we can all agree on, right? :)

amen on 1, 2 AND 3. To be honest at this point I'm more anxious for the marriage amendment results than the president. Maybe that's "off" but we could make history today. squeeeee!

I don't get often get all political and I have to say that everyone has a right to their own opinion. But I've always taken the stand that my rights leave off where your's start-- if my opinions infringe on your rights, then there is a problem. This applies ESPECIALLY to the marriage ammendment. I SO HAPPILY voted NO against it and hope to see positive outcomes from the vote tonight. One of my most FAVORITE people in the whole wide world is my zumba instructor and she is gay, married, and has a child with her wife. LOVE IS LOVE :-)

Not to get too technical, but voiting "yes" to the marriage amendment would not make it illegal it would make it unconstitutional. The laws make it illegal and I think there is already a law that does so. I'm not saying which I agree with as I work for a neutral office of the legislature, but unconstitutional is different than illegal.

I didn't get all political in my election post, but I 100% agree with everything in yours, girl! :) I am just as inspired (if not more so) than I was in 2008!

Love is love! Totally agree, and I am so happy to be a part of a church family (ELCA) who has been so open to gay marriage! Here in California, we are "behind" when it comes to equal marriage, but I sure do hope that things go well in MN!! Let us know how it turns out!
Oh, and the Instagram picture a few posts below about clothing optional dinner....yeah. That's pretty much every night with Rosemary! lol
