cabin fun (the day after) the 4th!

we finally made it up to my best friend kelli's family's cabin yesterday. i took azalea, but thatcher stayed home because he had to work. since it's only a little over an hour away, i decided that just going for the day was a better plan than staying the night. who wants to entertain a toddler in a tiny cabin when she decides to wake up at 5:30am? haha. azalea did really well in the car on the way there. only slept for about 20 minutes, but she was happy the rest of the time. it was pretty quiet at the lake for the day after the 4th, but it was nice! aside from kelli's family, there was a family friend of theirs, and a few neighbors. it was really hot when we got there, so we changed into our suits right away.

kelli and azalea all ready to swim! (look at her neighbors' pretty cabin being built in the background).

not surprisingly, azalea was sort of a stinker about swimming in the lake. the nice thing was the water was super warm, but she was not happy with me holding her or going in her floaty, so it was another 15 minute episode of fighting before i took her out. it was shallow where we were, but rocky!

here she is pretending to like me :)

after that, i thought i'd try to put her down for a nap. she wanted nothing to do with it. she stood in her pack n play and screamed and cried. i tried laying on the bed next to her, but it didn't help. i gave up and took her outside. she was visibly tired, so kelli suggested she give it a try. i went in the cabin 15 minutes later to find azalea asleep and kelli sitting in a chair next to the pack n play reading a book. of course. little stinker! :) i'm glad she went down though. she actually ended up sleeping for over 2 hours and it gave me the opportunity to swim and relax, so i was a happy camper.

relaxing on a gorgeous day!

she was in a much better mood when she woke up. (like the mouth full of food?)

kelli's mom viv offered to watch her while we went tubing with the neighbors. yes please! i hadn't been tubing in a couple years. it was so much fun! azalea enjoyed watching the boat go by. we thought it would be fun to take her on a little boat ride, too, so when we go back we found the toddler life vest and off we went.

she went between loving it and hating it. she liked to stand when the boat wasn't moving.

after we got back on shore, i was feeling tired, sun burned, and run down, so i decided to pack up our stuff and head out. we gave their friend brad a ride back to the city and azalea did pretty well again. no sleeping, but she only cried when the sun was in her eyes.  we had a really fun day and although it would have been fun to be there for the actual 4th, this ended up being better in a lot of ways. i can't believe how fast summer is flying. slowwwww down!
