homemade baby food

we decided a while back that we wanted to take a stab at making azalea's pureed food, rather than buying it at the store. mainly for 2 reasons: it saves a ton of money and we want her to get the freshest food possible. so a couple weekends ago, we thatcher made her zucchini!  :)

the zucchini came from our garden, so it was extra cheap! we cut it up into manageable chunks (it was HUGE), steamed it on the stove until it was soft, and then put it in the blender. voila, baby food!

we scooped it out of the blender and into ice cube trays (covered with plastic wrap) to freeze. we saved about 3 days worth to put in the fridge. but after the 3rd day, whenever we need some, we just pop them out of the tray, let it melt, and serve. you can also pop all of the frozen food-cicles out of the tray and keep them in a ziploc bag in the freezer (which is what we did when we wanted to make our next round of food). considering she only eats 1-2 of these per day, this will last us quite a while.

dinner is served! and she seemed to like it...added bonus :)

the only other food we've made so far is sweet potatoes (everyone we asked said these were their kids' favorite veggie), which was a similar process except we baked those instead of steaming them. we're probably going to do bananas and apples next. all in all it was pretty easy (says the mom who mostly watched - ha). give it a try and let me know how it goes!

There is an awesome baby food book I blogged about a few weeks ago - it's super helpful. After my work trip to Houston I need to get back to making baby food. Have been using Earth's Best, which Thatcher loves.
