our new normal

i've made it through my first 3 weeks back at work. it feels good to have those behind me as i imagine they are the hardest. ironically the first week was actually easier than the second. the first week azalea spent with my parents and thatcher's parents. i certainly missed her during the day, but barely worried about her. my mom even sent me emails "from" azalea those days. so cute! i'm going to keep them :) i know her grandparents loved each getting to spend 2 entire days with her.

the second week was a little harder. azalea started at daycare. the home daycare she goes to is great, but it's still the hardest thing in the world handing over your 3 month old baby for 9 hours to someone you hardly know. luckily azalea is adjusting well there (much better than most babies, according to jean). she is happy and well cared for and loves watching the bigger kids play. as i mentioned in my last daycare post, my boss's youngest son goes to the same daycare, so it's really nice to have that connection. i have to say, there's nothing better than seeing her smiling face everyday when i go to pick her up at the end of the day!

i can't forget to mention that i have wednesdays off work to spend with her at home. and it's the best thing in the world. knowing that i only have to work 2 days in a row is so nice. i really treasure our time together on wednesdays. it's also a nice way for me to catch up on housework/errands in the middle of the week.

our new routine has definitely created a new schedule for us. and it's an early one (at least on work days)! i get up at 5:30 am (eww), pump, take a shower and get ready, eat breakfast, and then i wake azalea up between 6:30 and 6:45 am. (yes, i have to wake her up as she is big fan of sleeping and this is the first time i've seen her since she went to bed). i get her ready for the day and then thatcher gives her a bottle while i run around the house and get my lunch prepared, her cloth diapers together, etc. we are out the door at 7:10 am. i drop her off at daycare at the same time as my boss and then we ride into work together (loving the carpool lane on the highway!). i work til 4:45 pm, then it's back to daycare to pick her up. she is usually worn out at the end of the day and almost always falls asleep in the car. we go home and hang out for a bit until thatcher gets home from work around 6:30 pm. one of us gives her a bottle while the other one makes dinner. then we eat, hoping that she stays content on her playmat. after that we either give her a bath or play with her for a while and sometime around 8:30 pm she gets one last bottle and heads to bed. the rest of the night i do laundry, dishes, get stuff ready for the next day (maybe relax?) and try to get to bed before 10:30 pm. whew!

So nice to read your story. It's very comfoirting to read working mama blogs. I'm a working mama too and this week was my first week back. It is VERY tough and very sad for me. I'd love to have a day off during the week...and aspire to have that soon. Good luck!
