lunch outing, more soccer, christmas baking

december is flying by as it always does...

last monday evening ashford went to karate with arlo and his mom. tuesday morning i took azalea to the orthodontist to talk about phase II for her. her first phase was an expander and braces back when she was 7, and now they want to do a round of invisalign to help with an overbite and some crowding, so we are looking at our options.

wednesday evening azalea had her second game for the city soccer tournament. it was all the way across town and thatcher had an evening event for work, which would have meant me dragging ashford along in the dark and rain, so i took her coach up on his offer to give any players a ride. they ended up losing 0-1, which means if they have 1 more loss, they are out of the tournament.

thursday i met vanessa and her mom (who was in town from nova scotia) for lunch at the 'kiss cafe' in ballard. it was a perfect cozy spot on a rainy day. we also stopped to see the troll.

that evening i took ashford and arlo to karate.

friday afternoon i went to kay's for a little happy hour get together and ashford and fritz walked there after their weekly sport class. it was nice to catch up! that evening was 'parents night out' at school, so we dropped off ashford then ordered takeout from a korean restaurant that is just a few blocks away and we have somehow never tried it in 8 years of living here. it was good! then thatcher and i walked down to an event we were invited to at our friends' mid century modern furniture store. ashford's friend arlo's dad was in a grunge band in the early 90s and his band just released an album that they recorded 30 years ago. we didn't stay long, but it was fun.

saturday we slept in and then i took azalea to her next tournament game. it was far away again, magnuson park. it was the absolute windiest, wettest conditions that i have ever watched her play in. we had a huge tent for the parents to sit under, but it was raining sideways half the time, so we still got soaked. 40 degrees feels really cold when you are wet. i felt so bad for the girls out on the field. they ended up losing 1-5. azalea and i had a long drive home in traffic and we couldn't feel our hands or feet. it was miserable. kind of a bummer end to a great season.

we spent the rest of the day at home. we made dinner and we all watched a new christmas movie called 'candy cane lane'.

of course sunday was 14 degrees warmer and sunny. ;) would have been nice if her game was that day! oh well. we all slept in and then azalea and i went shopping in northgate and to the library. thatcher and ashford baked meringue cookies.

ashford went to arlo's in the afternoon and after he got home, the kids and i baked peanut butter blossoms for azalea to take to her homeroom class today for their cookie exchange (and the rest for us).

after dinner the kids and i watched 'the grinch' circa 2018, which i feel is one of the best remakes ever :) ashford took this selfie and i love it.

now it's the last week of school before winter break. and ashford's birthday is quickly approaching also!
