summer dreaming, winter futsal, saint edward state park

i can't believe we're already planning for summer...in february, but such is life. last week i signed up the kids for two weeks of boys and girls day camp in august because registration opened already. they went last summer and they loved it! we are hoping to do a big trip to prague at the end of june/beginning of july to see anders, nith, and moss, but we have not booked it yet. we will also go to minneapolis for a few weeks in july, so i feel like our summer is basically already filled up! wild.

we had another (virtual) middle school info night last thursday. it was for the k-8 school in our neighborhood. i liked it more than i thought i would. ultimately it's azalea's decision where she wants to go, but i think she liked it too. there are about 300 middle schoolers there (in comparison to the 600 at the regular middle school). we are not guaranteed a spot, but she has a good chance of getting in because we live in the neighborhood. so we will see. we have to fill out the 'choice school' form through seattle public schools this month and then we find out in april.

friday morning after the gym, i met vanessa for brunch at sabine. i hadn't been there in forever and i forgot how amazing their avocado toast with a friend egg is. so good. friday night we picked up dinner from 'uneeda burger' and watched a movie with the kids.

saturday morning azalea had her first winter futsal game. what is futsal you ask? it's a variation of soccer that is popular in europe, it's 5 on 5, played indoors or on black top. the ball is slightly smaller and less bouncy. about half the girls from her soccer team signed up (along with her coach) and a couple boys from school joined too since it's co-ed. it was a beautiful sunny morning for it, but the wind was freeeezing, so we were all pretty miserable for the hour.

yes they are still required to be masked outdoors for sports, parents on the sidelines are too. i'm ready to be done with that, but at the same time we are so used to it. after the game i took her to a nearby bakery  to get a treat. i somehow managed to drop my drivers license on the floor (or counter?) there and not notice it was gone until i got home. in fact, i thought i may have lost it the day before. i felt so panicked since we are supposed to fly soon. i called the gym, sabine, and went back to where azalea's game was. no luck. finally i went back to the bakery and they had it. whewwww. such a relief.

it turned into the most lovely warm day later! (high of 55). i sat on the deck for a long time reading my book and actually felt hot because the sun is so intense back there, but no complaints!

the kids got started on their class valentines for monday. azalea's teacher asked them to write a full sentence compliment for each kid in the class :)

we made pizza for dinner and watched another movie.

sunday morning we made waffles and eggs for breakfast. in the afternoon we went on an outing to saint edward state park in kenmore (about 40 mins away). we had never been there, but it had been on my list to check out. it was a really pretty spot and we had another gorgeous day for it - it got all the way up to 57. we did a short hike, hung out on the beach, and the kids played on the playground.

this one is allergic to taking nice pictures ;)

the rest of the day we made dinner, the kids finished their class valentines, and we watched most of the super bowl. that half time show was my favorite in a long time - took me back and i couldn't stop smiling the entire performance. also, just 6 more days til we leave for florida. i am so excited.
