this week at home: health update, easter sunday, spring break

we are now 5 weeks into this coronavirus isolating. hard to believe! how much longer to go...?

i wanted to post an update about our health now that we are on the other side of some sickness at our house. it's a scary time to be sick and i've learned that i'm the type of person who needs to process things before i put them into words. backing up to the end of march (the week of azalea's birthday). i came down with a low grade fever, headaches, night sweats, and a cough. thankfully my fever never went above 100 and i didn't really get the chills, but the fever lasted for 5 days. my cough lingered for 3 weeks, but i'm feeling healthy now. my symptoms felt different than a cold or the flu, that's the only way to explain it. i never called my doctor because i wasn't feeling totally miserable (that's not to say it was a walk in the park). i knew they probably wouldn't test me for covid anyway because i'm not in an at-risk group. i feel that i likely had a mild case of it, but i don't have any proof. i hope to take an antibody test in the future. i didn't totally quarantine myself from my family, but thatcher did most of the cooking and putting the kids to bed, etc. we live in a small house that only has 1 bathroom, so it's pretty much impossible totally quarantine. i did not leave my house/yard for 2 weeks to be safe and to keep my germs contained.

fast forward about 12 days. no one else in our house had showed any signs of sickness, which i was thankful for. but the first saturday in april, thatcher started to feel crummy. he didn't have a fever for the first couple days, but definitely did by sunday night. it started off low grade, but by tuesday and wednesday night it was spiking to 102 and he was really uncomfortable. he had chills, sweating, headaches, and a cough. he was a lot sicker than i was and it was honestly really scary with everything you read in the news. he was too sick to work the entire week. he called his doctor on thursday and they set up a virtual appointment for friday morning. they told him they wouldn't test him for covid (even though they agreed it sounded like he had it), but they prescribed him an inhaler and had him up the amount of fever reducer he was taking and cough syrup. on saturday he started to turn the corner. his fever became low grade or non-existent. sunday (easter) he had more energy than he had had in over a week. it was so reassuring to see! i'm so thankful that neither of us needed to go to the hospital and that we are both recovered now.

not surprisingly, we had a low-key easter. the kids put out carrots and a note for the easter bunny before bed the night before.

on sunday they were awake before 7am chomping at the bit to go see their baskets.

happy campers

i made eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast for breakfast. we hung out at home for the morning. after lunch, azalea and i decided to take a little drive. all the parks and beaches were closed (even to park and look out), but there's a view point park not far from us that we were able to park alongside. it was a beautiful day. lots of people out, so we stayed in the car.

she wanted to pretend to drive ;) she and i both wore dresses to make the day feel more festive. when we got back, i hid plastic eggs filled with coins in the yard for the kids to find. they loved it!

we didn't have much for groceries, so we decided to pick up thai food for dinner. i drove to a new (to us) place in phinney ridge and did curbside pickup. thatcher also baked a flourless chocolate cake.

other tidbits from the week:

i mentioned that it was officially spring break this week. we missed being in minnesota like we had planned, but they got a bunch of snow this week, so that helped soften the blow. haha! we did a little school work this week, but mostly took it easy.

every day from 1-2pm i let the kids play online "educational" games so i can have a break in the middle of the day. i usually sit outside and read my book, call my mom, or go for a walk. it's lovely!

one day vanessa and ewan did a driveby visit. we chatted with them from their car and they brought us treats. so nice!

i've been doing a fair amount of online shopping these days (because i miss regular shopping and there are so many good deals and free shipping offers!). i got these earrings from loft for $10. it's nice to have something to look forward to on days that packages are expected to arrive ;)

the weather has been so nice! i don't know what i would do if we were cooped up with rain every day.

yesterday it was sunny and 68 degrees so i asked the kids if they wanted to clean the car. it was a fun way to kill 30 mins. then they wanted to change into their swimsuits and play with buckets of water in the backyard. seattle hot!
