womxn's march and the nfl playoffs

hello monday! here's a recap from a fun weekend:

friday night was our usual night in. i'm not sure why i even bother recording it on here, but i'm a creature of habit. ha.

saturday morning i woke up and immediately remembered it was the day of the women's march. it started last year in cities all over the country (and world) and i really regretted not going last year. at the same time, i wasn't sure about the logistics. should i go alone? with friends? bring azalea? do the whole march or part of it? it was almost enough to make me say "forget it" again. but i knew i would regret it again, so i messaged my group of mom friends and asked if anyone was going and two of them were and bringing their 5 year old sons. they said i should come with and bring azalea! they decided to just do the second half of the march (from downtown to seattle center) and that sounded perfect to me. i quickly rounded up some cardboard and paper and azalea and i made signs.

we met up at seattle center at 11:30 and took the monorail into downtown. it was very busy down there, people milling around, waiting for the march to arrive. it was close to 12:30 by the time the march made it to us. we jumped right in and were on our way. it was the most supportive, peaceful group of people you could imagine. it was such a great experience and we had a blast. azalea had fun carrying her sign and asking lots of questions. i'm so glad i took her along, i think it's so important for her to be an activist and not sit by the wayside when things are unjust. teaching her young!

and these guys too :)

waiting to march

after we finished. hurray!

we came home to thatcher and ashford who played legos and marble run all day. thatcher went to get groceries and then we made a rice noodle stir fry dish that was delicious (and spicy!). we relaxed after the kids went to sleep.

sunday morning we met up with our friends mark, tina, and emily at "playhappy cafe" in a suburb north of seattle. it's a cafe/children's museum/indoor play area concept. i had been meaning check it out. turns out the max age is 6, so we squeezed in under the wire with azalea. the kids had a blast there with emily. she is two now and loves playing with them. we came home for lunch and azalea napped while i went to the grocery store and thatcher and ashford played. a few hours later we headed to bothell to their house for the vikings playoff game. admittedly it's the first game we've watched this year - shameless fair weather fans. haha. but we thought it would be fun to join the hype. the kids looooove going to mark and tina's because they have so much space to run around and play. the game was pretty dismal and the vikings got clobbered, but we had a fun night hanging out with them!

ashford has his 4 year old check up today and in 4 days, i'm heading to vashon island with my mama friends. i cannot wait!
