here's a random hodge podge of things i want to blog about before the holiday weekend:
1. monday evening i got a call from my aunt in georgia. she tearfully let me know that my cousin's wedding has to be postponed indefinitely because her fiancee's deployment unexpectedly got extended and there is no way he can be there for the wedding. say what?! i was not expecting to hear that (there's always a possibility for things like this to happen when you are in the military, but of course it was still surprising!). i feel so bad for lindsey and roman, having to cancel their big day that they've so been looking forward to, just 3 weeks out. i'm also sad i won't be going down there this month and getting to celebrate with everyone, but it will happen eventually! maybe in the fall, maybe next spring.
2. as part of my dad's memorial last august, we listed 3 organizations for people to donate to that my dad supported. one that we chose was 'people for parks' because my dad spent many years walking and biking around the lakes in minneapolis. we donated enough to get an engraved paver at lake harriet and it was installed this week. my mom and brother went to the "celebration" (they do it once a year for everyone who is getting a paver installed). it looks so beautiful and i can't wait to see it in person next time i'm in town. it sums up my dad perfectly. it's still surreal to see reminders that he is truly gone. how can it be? i will never understand.
5. on a happier note, i'm so looking forward to this long weekend. it's one of my favorite weekends of the entire year. my friend vanessa's canada day party is on saturday, my 32nd birthday is on sunday, and independence day is on monday! i'm not really sure what we are going to do for the 4th, but hopefully something fun! i hope you all have a fun and safe weekend celebrating!
