ashford is 2 months
here we are, another month into my little dude's life. hard to believe!
highlights this month:
this was a busy month for you, ashford! you attended great grandma marian's funeral where you put a smile on everyone's face, had your first and second trip to the zoo, attended your first super bowl party, watched your first olympics, had your first time(s) away from mama for more than 30 mins, and celebrated your first valentine's day! you also started smiling and cooing at us, which we love!
stats:
as of your doctors appointment this week: 11 lbs, 3 oz (25%), 23 inches long (50%), 38 cm head circumference (25%). you weigh 7 oz. more than your sister at this age, but your height is the same. the doctor said you look perfect - music to my ears! she was also cracking up at you smiling at stuff on the wall :) you got your 2 month shots, which is never fun. you started crying with the oral liquid vaccine, then screamed through the shots in your legs, but stopped as soon as mama picked you up.
hair and eye color:
i feel like your hair has gotten a little darker. your eyes are lightening a little bit from grayish blue to more true blue. i wonder if they will stay blue like your sister's? your dad will be excited if his recessive gene wins out twice. haha.
clothing:
we switched you to size 1 diapers around 7 weeks. mama is holding off on cloth for now because she can hardly keep up with the regular laundry these days. maybe someday we'll try them out on you! all of your newborn stuff is put away now and you've outgrown some 0-3 stuff as well. you are wearing a mixture of 0-3 and 3 month stuff.
sleep:
night time sleep is pretty much holding steady at 3 hours chunks. sometimes more like 2 hours, and sometimes more like 4 hours (if we are lucky - ha). mama is pretty tired these days! you still sleep in the rock n play next to our bed. daytime sleep has been interesting. you are starting to show a bit of a pattern, but you still aren't a big napper. you usually take a 15-30 minute nap in the morning in your swing and then nap on the couch with mama or in your car seat while out and about in the afternoon. you do not sleep for long on your own, hopefully that will get better with time. i can't say i mind the snuggles too much ;)
feeding:
you are still my champion nurser. i didn't think we'd still be nursing as frequently as we are these days, but it's ok. you still eat about every 1.5 hours during the day, maybe stretching to 2 hours if you are napping. you've had a few bottles and you've done great with them, which is a relief. you still love to cluster feed every evening, which can be frustrating for mama, but i know it won't last forever. if you could at least wait until i eat dinner, though, that would be nice, ok? :) the doctor said as you become more social and interested in your surroundings, it will improve. for now i'll just be thankful that nursing is going so well. hopefully we'll be able to keep it up when i go back to work.
most used gear:
rock n play, swing (borrowed from the neighbors), bouncy seat. you are starting to be interested in toys in front of you, so we might have to bust out the play mat soon!
likes:
nursing, being held, motion (when being held or in the car), your sister (you are really paying attention to her these days and giving her lots of smiles), elmo (as in, azalea's sesame street videos. we didn't let her watch videos until she was at least a year, but as the second child you are getting started young. you smile at the tv whenever elmo is on!), when mama sings to you, laying on your changing pad, baths.
dislikes:
having to wait 2 seconds to eat, taking longer than a cat nap, being cold, having your diaper changed in the night.
ashford,
you are no longer a newborn, but a social little man and we can't get enough of you. i love watching you study your sister's every move and smile at her. you guys are going to have so much fun together in the coming months and years. you are still a big mama's boy - no complaints over here. but i promise, your dad is pretty cool too. can't wait to see what the next month will bring. we love you!
