labor day weekend: mostly a state fair recap

what a difference a weekend makes. we went from 90's every day for over a week to fall temperatures just like that!

friday was a big day for thatcher, it was his last day of work at the company he's worked for for the last eight years. he will be starting a new job on september 9th. it'll be a big change for him (and us!). i'm really proud of him and excited for this new chapter in his career. friday night we went to my parents' after dinner. my mom had strawberry shortcake for us :)

saturday morning azalea woke up at 5:40. oy. the big girl bed has generally been going well, but she has been waking earlier than normal. she came in our bed for about 40 minutes. thatcher and i tried to doze off, but she pretty much pokes us and says "mama sleeping, dada sleeping" the whole time :) so we got up. after about 50 tantrums and meltdowns by 8:30, we were ready to escape the house, so we took her out on some errands. in the afternoon, she and i napped and then i took her to the wading pool for the last time this summer. my mom and grandma met us there. in the evening, thatcher helped his sister and her family move, so azalea and i ate dinner at my parents' and then met our friends jeromy, becky, and linnea for frozen yogurt. the place by our house has wheel you spin to find out how much you will pay/oz and i landed on the free spot! woo hoo! i put azalea to bed and finished the night on the couch, watching "my best friend's wedding."

sunday morning we finally made it to the state fair. i had been so anxious to go, but it's been unbearably hot. when the heat broke sunday, we were not the only ones who had the same idea. in fact, i read last night that sunday's attendance was the largest ever! 236,000. holy cow! we got to the fair by 8:45 am and it was the most crowded i've ever seen it that early. luckily the cool weather made the crowds much more tolerable. we made the usual stops of food stands, animal barns, various agriculture buildings, etc with a healthy dose of people watching thrown in. :) here are some pictures of our morning:

she loooooved the bus, but she's only smiling because she was trying to take the camera from me

 checking out the goats

this picture actually makes it look pretty dead, i assure you it wasn't.

devouring a chocolate malt

big turkey sandwich, roasted corn, kettle corn,
fried eggplant taco, chocolate malt, french fries

we were all pooped after the fair and took naps in the afternoon, then hung out at home the rest of the night.

monday (labor day) we had no plans. we ran a couple errands in the morning. naps for azalea and me in the afternoon (yes, i napped every afternoon this weekend - it was glorious). we took azalea to the park, made sweet potato tacos for dinner, then uncle anders stopped by before an early to bed night.

Looks like you had fun at the fair. We have a TV in our bedroom, so we've gotten in the habit of Hailey waking up and coming into our bed and watching cartoons. I get her some juice and occasionally a bowl of dry cereal (depending on her hunger) and she as happy as a clam. It may be bad parenting, but I don't really care. It works for us. Haha.
